Levitra (vardenafil) is a prescription drug used to treat male impotence. Levitra blocks a chemical responsible for blood outflow from the penis, which contributes to an improved erection. This medicine is effective only when you take it. Once you stop the treatment you may not be able to achieve a stable erection and have sex. Levitra is usually taken with a full glass of water or some food. However, you should avoid taking Levitra with fatty foods as this may decrease the absorption of the drug.
You must not combine any other medications with Levitra without your doctor’s consent. It is especially dangerous to take is with nitrates (nitroglycerin patches, tablets, capsules, ointment or spray) and alpha-blockers (medicine intended for the treatment of high blood pressure or benign prostatic hyperplasia), such as prazosin, tamsulosin, terazosin, doxazosin and alfuzosin. Other drugs Levitra must not be combined with include heart arrhythmia drugs (amiodarone, quinidine and procainamide), antibiotics, antifungals and grapefruit juice.
